A Muslim Kids TV original story: The King and the Bundle of Sticks

LEVEL: Pre-K +        LANGUAGE: English

Story based on the Aesop tale The Bundle of Sticks

There was once a king who was near his term and had five children with his wife the queen. He was well pleased with his children accomplishments however, the constant disagreement among them made the king and the queen really sad. One day the king summoned his children around him to give them some parting advice.

He ordered his servants to bring in a bundle of sticks tied with a rope, and said to his eldest son: "Break it." The son strained and strained, but with all his efforts was unable to break the Bundle.

The other siblings also tried, but none of them was successful. "Untie them ," said the king, "and each of you take a stick." When they had done so, he called out to them one by one by one and said: "Now, break them" and each stick was easily broken. "Do you understand the meaning of this?" said the king. While you argue among yourselves you promote disharmony and war and like these sticks you are easily broken. But while you are together you are as strong as the bundle of sticks, so stick together because union gives strength.

Little brothers and sisters there is a lesson to be learned from this story and that is that that we are all brothers and sisters to one another, no matter the color of our skin, our hair or faces. We were all created by Allah and we should follow Allah's command in the glorious Qur'an that is:

And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allaah (i.e. this Quran) and be not divided among yourselves. [Quran 3:103]

To stick together in our belief set by Allah in the Glorious Qur'an that is that there is only one God and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.
